I think she is a Shetland and a----</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Last May was our first sheering, and I sent the wool to a semi-local mill to be made into Aran weight yarn. I currently don't have the time, skill, or if I am completely honest, the inclination to spin my own yarn. Someday maybe. Let me tell you what I've discovered:</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPGb2I-Rgr_RRKhT4R8gOxdPxMf0w-l2Yr-AjPoZuE1Z07mZa3VZCVzEnjhvXnUbzNVUSF3fgkIeU88GrAF2SdBR5B6aD_MODEyTrruHn8tT5wse_QhJ1Y6XcgMDvE6NtFdMYiI8HS8HjA/s1600/IMG_20181019_170057934.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPGb2I-Rgr_RRKhT4R8gOxdPxMf0w-l2Yr-AjPoZuE1Z07mZa3VZCVzEnjhvXnUbzNVUSF3fgkIeU88GrAF2SdBR5B6aD_MODEyTrruHn8tT5wse_QhJ1Y6XcgMDvE6NtFdMYiI8HS8HjA/s400/IMG_20181019_170057934.jpg" width="225" /></a><span style="font-size: large;">I had each sheep spun separately so I could compare the wool. I did this because when they were being shorn the gentleman helping us was discussing how they felt to him as we went. I wanted to see how this would translate into wearable yarn. </span><br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I've so far knitted with Evia's and Caitlin's (she is my favorite sheep by far). Evia is a ginormous sheep and I've got the most of her wool. Tiddler is the smallest and I haven't used hers yet (also because it feels the roughest). I'm in the process of working with Zoom Zoom's (the token black sheep that we actually bought for meat but she was too small and too adorable to even contemplate that fate). So far, by far, I love Zoom Zoom's wool best. It is the most squishy, lovely stuff imaginable. It is not as scratchy as the Border Leicester wool. However, I washed Caitlin's a couple of times in Eucran and the sweater was pretty good to the touch. A wee bit scratchy to begin with, but certainly bearable. </span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">I had this pattern in the closet. I don't particularly like the way the collar turned out, and I'm not sure I will ever wear it. <span style="font-size: large;">I knit another <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ross-5">Ross</a> by Pam Allen. I had previously knit one for my daughter, and I think the sizing is weird. It is meant to be boxy, but the arms are skinny. Anyway, I learned from my previous knit and I am happy with the result of this one. </span><br />

It is from Interweave, and so far, I love love love it. I was a bit leery it would turn out too small, but I am currently at gauge so fingers crossed. I am always to nervous it won't fit when I am done. This project is seamed, but I like to pretend I don't like but I secretly think I do. At least, for Aran jumpers. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">So that's what I've been up to. I am looking into natural dyes, so I have a long road ahead of me. I'm going to see what I can plant, or what I can harvest naturally around here and see what colors I can get. Fun!!</span><br />

Not the southern California winter I grew up with. It has been snowing, it is cold, and going to get <span style="color: #0b5394;"><b>very</b></span> cold in a few days. However I am happy with it, because it means I get to be inside reading, cooking, and best of all, crafting. I also have the next several days off work for the holiday, which would help anyones mood. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjS4yQQKRG9RDyf5EtVuiCA-ToDY-1InOKuI4b7BBBF9t55O3pKu7dcP0qCecXFJahqh_2hLi8vYdvKN3VMx6JBNIjhx61VKcUHZzjRmMRJCEVdVfw6vuRr7NqjuqIpYliGzj_h1NUEEgyj/s1600/IMG_20171222_090607441.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjS4yQQKRG9RDyf5EtVuiCA-ToDY-1InOKuI4b7BBBF9t55O3pKu7dcP0qCecXFJahqh_2hLi8vYdvKN3VMx6JBNIjhx61VKcUHZzjRmMRJCEVdVfw6vuRr7NqjuqIpYliGzj_h1NUEEgyj/s640/IMG_20171222_090607441.jpg" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">This whole crofting (homesteading, small farming, whatever you want to call it) lifestyle is hard work. Good, satisfying work, but hard nonetheless. Spring through fall we worked our regular jobs, and worked the rest of the time on the farm. I'm proud of what we achieved, and I'll be even happier when the pigs and sheep are in the freezer next month. Winter means less outside work, and more relaxing and more time for creating, which I enjoy. Oh seasons, you are so wonderful. </span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">A year or two ago my sister cleaned out her craft cupboard, and I added a few things to mine. I do love this sort of cleaning that other people do--when it involves me getting new things for free. I got a shaggy baby blanket kit, which I stored away in my cupboard. Then this baby boom hit, and this morning as the snow fell, I knew it was time to get it done. The blanket is for my co-worker, and she isn't due until May. However, in May I'll be busy getting the garden started, and going on a trip to Peru, and there will not be time for sewing. I'm planning ahead! </span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">All you do it sew the rectangles together in the manner laid out in the pattern, and then cut the pieces to be "shaggy." It only took a few hours, and is currently in the washing machine. Great, right? Yeah, my weak little wrists are sore from all the cutting. </span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">I've also been on a real bag-making kick. I think because they are small and fairly easy to make, yet you can challenge yourself. I found a free pattern on Pinterest called <a href="http://www.robertkaufman.com/quilting/quilts_patterns/trail_tote/#color:1">Trail Tote</a>, and made the small one first.Quickly realizing that it was nowhere near big enough for me, I made the larger size, using what I'd learned making the first one to make it even better. </span><br />

So not one but two of my co-workers are expecting babies, and best of all, so is my niece. I cannot believe that I'm old enough that the girl I watched come into this world is having her own baby. I've accepted it now that I've had time to digest the idea, and I'm so freaking excited. I have already picked out a baby blanket to knit (she picked forest green, it should be pretty), but I've got plenty of time because she isn't due until May. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I was cleaning out my craft closet the other day, and decided sewing was in order to rest my wrists a bit. I've been Christmas knitting like a fiend and it was starting to hurt. In the midst of my cleaning I found some fabric that my mother bought me when MY babies were actual babies, that I never got around to using. My niece isn't into gender biased colors so I figured these were perfect.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">A while ago I <strike>stole</strike> borrowed this sewing book from my Grandma. It is called Sewing in a Straight Line by Brett Bara. I like several of the projects in it, but this quilt looked pretty, and easy, and like something I could handle. My sister (soon to be the grandma) approved so I got to work. It went very quickly, and cost only around $20 for the batting, backing, cream fabric, etc. I do love to use a Joann's coupon, or three. </span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I messed around with placement and ideas, and then one day it just HIT ME, and I was happy with how I arranged everything. I do love it when things come together. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I just quilted straight lines as well, because that is about all I can handle. Even that was a challenge at the start--but I got there in the end. </span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">I promised I would post two posts on completed knits back to back, and I failed. Oh well. As I sat here on my day off drinking tea early in the morning, I remembered I had to post about the baby blanket I recently finished. I have knitting on the brain in a BIG way, as this past weekend I finally figured out what I am knitting the girls for their Christmas. It is hard to plan that far ahead (at least for me), and it interrupted (gratefully?) a project I was working on already. I'm knitting a <a href="http://Calder Pullover">Calder Pullover</a> and only have one sleeve left. Only thing is, I just checked and I started it last December. If I am lucky I will finish it THIS December, making it the longest ever worked on sweater. I only have 3/4 of a sleeve left too! I don't know why I hate the sleeves so much, but I do. I did the first, then the body, and thought I was done (you are supposed to do the two sleeves first but I didn't have it in me). Anyway, I will get there.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Part of what distracted me was knitting a baby blanket for my co-worker Brent. He was my trainee at one point, and I like him. He and his wife are having their first baby, due in December. I knit them a <a href="http://Mosaic Blanket">Mosaic Blanket</a> from Purl Soho. I had wanted to knit one ever since it popped up in my inbox, and this gave me a great excuse. The only thing I did differently than the pattern was the crochet shell stitch around the border.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">I love this blanket a lot. It was fun to knit, the result is impressive (at least to me!), and it turned out a great size. I used Lion Brand Wool-Ease (cream) and Caron Cakes (rainbow) for the yarn. Easy to wash, with just a bit of wool for a winter baby. Plus, I got to use my coupons that Joann's shoves down my phone every week. What with the free pattern, it was a very affordable blanket to knit.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Now I've just found out my niece is pregnant and due in May, so I get a chance to knit another blanket I'm excited about. I won't cast on until well after the new year, because I have 2 Christmas sweaters to knit for my girls, and two sweater WIP's of my own. We will ignore the hat languishing in my basket because it was just for fun and there is no deadline.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The last thing I completed that I had put off for ages was recovering my desk chair. It has a mysterious stain on it, and that chair is older than my kids, so here is before and after:</span><br />

But only a little. Spring, summer, fall, they are all busy times here on our little farm. I've been knitting, but I've also become caretaker of some sheep, planted a big garden, went on vacation (yay!), and currently I'm canning. A lot. Mostly tomatoes but today I made some pickled miso vegetables I'm eager to try. </span><br />

<span style="font-size: x-large;">Before I go much further, because this is a crafting/knitting blog, these are my future yarn providers. They are Border Leicheters, and really rather spoiled girls. The ewe in the background there is going to be bred in a few weeks, the others will wait until next year when they are old enough. The black sheep is actually something else......part Icelandic I think. She was bought as a meat sheep but we all sort of fell in love with her.</span><br />

Then I came home and made a <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sugar-maple-3">Sugar Maple</a> top. I had almost enough, but ended up getting another skein to finish it. Poor me, I have almost an entire skein I'll have to use up on another project. I really love how the top turned out, and last night I wore it to dinner. I finished it in July and just managed to get my daughter to snap a few pictures. This yarn is so super soft, it felt wonderful wearing it. </span></span><br />

Over the course of the couple of days I had decided to make one a cabled hat, and the other asked for a messy bun hat for running. All it takes is a couple of compliments on my knitting and I am off and running. Oh the joy when people WANT me to knit something for them.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">First up, I knit <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/father-cables">Father Cables</a>, with a blue Lions Brand yarn I had leftover from my Bloomsbury sweater. This pattern is free, and I loved knitting it. I just love cables, I do!</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Next up I took a look at messy bun hats. I didn't really want to try to crochet, and I didn't want it plain and boring. She did ask for brightish colors since she would wear it for running, and she does like my Hermione Hat that I keep in my work car. So, all that sorted, I used another stash yarn-- Loops and Threads Impeccable Ombre (it hurt my hands but I got it done), and the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hermiones-cable--eyelet-hat">Hermione Hat</a> pattern (free!).</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"> It looks really rather funny to me, and I think the opening is too high, but maybe that is just me. I used another free messy bun pattern to do the opening, and there are so many different way to do it. Here is a bad bathroom picture of me in it:</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">All in all, a few fun hats. I also ran into another co-worker that crochets for a kids charity up north. I made her a bunch of hats last year and she was sniffing around for more, so I guess I had better get started on those one of these days........</span><br />

Oh well, better late than never I guess. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1muHtEzkDbCNHaAV1F0zilgLdQpWPPskj_xiBtmlvPRI6-6rEDuZrWgInVieqKXoRou2QgKbg0oMiVTQI6sU_rjbVRjN-z1-RIf3-tNmRv3YXv8FStNjpH5vKKYf7Bd_svjMGGmeT50r0/s1600/IMG_20161225_085745426.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1muHtEzkDbCNHaAV1F0zilgLdQpWPPskj_xiBtmlvPRI6-6rEDuZrWgInVieqKXoRou2QgKbg0oMiVTQI6sU_rjbVRjN-z1-RIf3-tNmRv3YXv8FStNjpH5vKKYf7Bd_svjMGGmeT50r0/s400/IMG_20161225_085745426.jpg" width="225" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Every year I try to knit the girls something for Christmas--teaching that homemade is best and whatnot. This year I made them shawls. I know, they are only 10, but for whatever reason they both really wanted shawls. Thus far I've only knit small shawls, or shawlettes, or whatever your call them, so I wanted to pick something relatively easy. I picked the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/campside">Campside</a> shawl, and I really enjoyed it (even making two!). The pattern is free, which never ceases to amaze me, people are just so giving with their talent. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I chose Elsbeth Lavold Silky Wool, in the girliest colors ever (I think they are just now thinking there is a world outside of pink and purple). The yarn is 45% Wool,</span><span style="font-size: large;"> 35% Silk, 20% manufactured Fibers - Nylon / Polyamide. I liked the yarn, it was different than what I normally use, and was a nice change of scenery if you will. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">They shawls took about a month and a half each for me to knit, in secret, with the girls beating down the door because it was locked. They love them however, and that is all that matters. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I also knit them both a hat, from patterns I already had, and yarn I didn't know what to do with. </span><br />

However, since this <i>IS</i> a knitting blog, and I'm having so much fun, I will. </span><br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib6_ed_rJkBAcnLzYTxNGPSOXYlFlOLOGVv-liQUQKV_4rKQCeCImFgwYErqh2hTxgVJHXXheMkUOV0G9vMz1_TNSA9rGvDeqbqRv1mQUScdOCvoGRKvEDsi9j-lSWwonMQJZdE-bVF_9Q/s1600/IMG_20170204_162924221.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib6_ed_rJkBAcnLzYTxNGPSOXYlFlOLOGVv-liQUQKV_4rKQCeCImFgwYErqh2hTxgVJHXXheMkUOV0G9vMz1_TNSA9rGvDeqbqRv1mQUScdOCvoGRKvEDsi9j-lSWwonMQJZdE-bVF_9Q/s400/IMG_20170204_162924221.jpg" width="225" /></a><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I just started a <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ten-stitch-blanket">10 Stitch scrap blanket</a>, and it is <i><b>divine</b></i>. The other day I drank a strange combination of wine (with dinner) and tea (after dinner) and somehow ended up with energy to burn and a craft closet to clean out. It looks wonderful now, and it got me to thinking I should start another scrap blanket. I made a crochet one years ago now (I love it), but that didn't use up the tiny little bits I've been storing, and I feel like the 10 Stitch will. So I put all the smallest pieces in a basket, and let the girls lay them out in the order they wanted me to use them, and I got going. It is really very easy, though I didn't do the daisy join right the first time, but I soon realized I wasn't slipping the stitch on the reverse side correctly and once I'd fixed that--presto!</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil24miAOF69FIbAedyi1GQdMqd5tdwWnA6j5xtghHXXk-QCDQ4JGd36vZLnYiuu1kRLdHlSDCTDoy8NW5VjUHeDpcmOIM_FCJJ84CU0NSwPo0nHiavXFjM2ceyVS3X2_7n-zyFnHvAygmo/s1600/IMG_20160724_135937412_TOP.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil24miAOF69FIbAedyi1GQdMqd5tdwWnA6j5xtghHXXk-QCDQ4JGd36vZLnYiuu1kRLdHlSDCTDoy8NW5VjUHeDpcmOIM_FCJJ84CU0NSwPo0nHiavXFjM2ceyVS3X2_7n-zyFnHvAygmo/s640/IMG_20160724_135937412_TOP.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The thing I most love about scrap blankets is that they can be ugly to everyone but the person making it. I like to think about each yarn as I use it--where I bought it, what I used it for, who I gave the project to. It is a lovely little trip down memory lane, and so very enjoyable. For some reason, it is also highly addictive, and I am having trouble putting it down. The laundry lays neglected, the kids are playing too much computer, the husband really deserves help with the fence, but here I sit, knitting. It is really quite addictive. </span><br />

Did it matter that I already had a cardigan, a sweater, and a pair of socks on the needles? <i><b>Nope</b></i>. I love that they are still small enough the project just fly off the needles. We picked a pattern that all three of us liked, so I have the option of making one for myself if I want. This pattern was excellent because it had the size XS, perfect for my 10 year old girls, all the way up to XXL, which I hope I will never need. Being frugal, I do love when I can pay for one pattern and use it three times (or four if I make my Grandma one).</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">She picked black, which wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The pattern is called <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bloomsbury-7">Bloomsbury</a>, by Svetlana Volkova. It is well written, and turned out beautifully. Also, it can be worn with the plain side in front (as it is meant to be) or you can turn it around and have the lace work in front. Variety!! Now' I'm off to start the second one, this time in teal, which I'm looking forward to. Then, I'll have to consider some yarn to make one for myself, because I'm in love with this sweater.</span><br />

I've been knitting some baby items, for my husband's friend at work. She is expecting a much anticipated grand child, and so I got busy with my needles. Plus, knitting baby clothes <i>is so <b>much</b> fun</i>!</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBWxaGZqxqrgfwE1OCo7gwcvjWTa7PLpnCJYoZDbdYe4bB5TnAezIV2-ZK8IV28GsxEBD9hWDRxdlMvgDWeUV-hiinPcm0fEwRlUwv-0TGQEu1KndPon71e-n99hv9UX3D3SzNuw4evYKX/s1600/IMG_20160418_084638630.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBWxaGZqxqrgfwE1OCo7gwcvjWTa7PLpnCJYoZDbdYe4bB5TnAezIV2-ZK8IV28GsxEBD9hWDRxdlMvgDWeUV-hiinPcm0fEwRlUwv-0TGQEu1KndPon71e-n99hv9UX3D3SzNuw4evYKX/s640/IMG_20160418_084638630.jpg" width="356" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I made the above with stash yarn and free patterns (yay!), so not only am I gifting, but I'm technically cleaning too. The cardigan is <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/puerperium-cardigan">Puerperium cardigan</a>, and the booties are <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/baby-uggs-2">Baby Uggs</a>. Those baby things were so fun, I made a few more:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg92gek-IPtL4Lv0F4rf4rptcU-l7qLCzIrYAWkkI36PELNHs6QOmCjxnVSdXhPYXw9x5_FeMkA-t2erE4IxcK79-uv0AU5uFdIH1tGp9MerfLeuyB1vOU8Vce6bPPW5DGa3Xe5aPYdKd3v/s1600/IMG_20160407_125826941.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg92gek-IPtL4Lv0F4rf4rptcU-l7qLCzIrYAWkkI36PELNHs6QOmCjxnVSdXhPYXw9x5_FeMkA-t2erE4IxcK79-uv0AU5uFdIH1tGp9MerfLeuyB1vOU8Vce6bPPW5DGa3Xe5aPYdKd3v/s640/IMG_20160407_125826941.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">It is called the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/little-seedling-soaker">Little Seedling Soaker</a>. I used Deborah Norville Serenity Baby yarn for it. </span><span style="font-size: large;">And lastly, one more sweater and a hat, also from stash yarn (that I think I've had for about 10 years, just waiting for a project). The set is called <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/star-bright-baby-cardigan-and-hat">Star Bright</a>, and in hindsight I should have knit the hat in the round, but live and learn I guess. The yarn is Sidar Supersoft Aran, and the picture doesn't really do the color justice, it is more of a pale grey blue.</span><br />
<br />

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">All of those projects I finished by June, and then I started knitting Isla a sweater for this winter. I'll post about that next, because I'm really rather proud of how it turned out. </span><br />

It has been <i>months</i> since I've been in this space, and I have been busy! We bought a small farm in February of last year, and right after we got moved in and got settled, I started gardening in a big way. We had a big (and productive) vegetable garden, which meant lots of weeding, canning, freezing and eating all summer long. We also have 15 chickens, 2 cats (in addition to the 2 dogs) and we raised a sheep. We had a great time, and developed a lot of goals for next year.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDvpuIKdbjQiT6koDhMPQ4U1L1nR_KpSuzET5o0eDcwXXojyYBNxfYk4XCLfWqc9RKxPYgwzFiFiwjbgTp5DOy-2fQQh6GtjGoMai9XHJvjntQowckr5K3jU-BMTQGgRdUY8woZw9mfbTm/s1600/IMG_20160101_081713983.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDvpuIKdbjQiT6koDhMPQ4U1L1nR_KpSuzET5o0eDcwXXojyYBNxfYk4XCLfWqc9RKxPYgwzFiFiwjbgTp5DOy-2fQQh6GtjGoMai9XHJvjntQowckr5K3jU-BMTQGgRdUY8woZw9mfbTm/s640/IMG_20160101_081713983.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">I have been knitting all the time I'm wasn't blogging, sometimes less, and sometimes more, but now that it is winter, it is definitely <b>more</b>. </span><br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT38ZSt-xrVZabZz7LZXT_x-dODMAAwuQd4HuFlNGGmRmWRAZ5UJmZaBZs7RNN_tDqjktdCl25pmRT-x_alZcqZeDCSoYCNX70P5hCK0BTTzA3PjISZEzW06xQr9c_mULTJWLWVFvlS9_e/s1600/IMG_20160110_120719496.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT38ZSt-xrVZabZz7LZXT_x-dODMAAwuQd4HuFlNGGmRmWRAZ5UJmZaBZs7RNN_tDqjktdCl25pmRT-x_alZcqZeDCSoYCNX70P5hCK0BTTzA3PjISZEzW06xQr9c_mULTJWLWVFvlS9_e/s400/IMG_20160110_120719496.jpg" width="310" /></a><span style="font-size: large;">Recently I finished the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/unity-pullover">Unity Pullover</a>, from the book Finish-Free Knits. I used up some yarn I had purchased for a different project (Drops Alaska and Drops Big Delight), but ended up not making. Now, I should say that I am not normally a fan of so much <span style="color: #0b5394;"><b>color</b></span>--but the yarn is pure wool and I figured it would keep me warm outside this winter. Oh man does it ever--I love how warm and comfortable this sweater is. Plus, it was easy and fast. </span><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I didn't knit a whole lot of Christmas presents this year, but I did make three of my co-workers <span style="background-color: white;"><a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gap-tastic-cowl">Gap-tastic cowls</a>. </span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I've got a few more things to share, if I can get pictures taken. I'm also working on a cardigan for myself, and a pullover sweater for Dave. Fun!!</span><br />
<br />

I got an incredible urge to knit socks--so I did (one anyway).</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>

I love tea, these socks, and things that are free. I'm using the Cascade 220 fingering from my Roxborough Dolman that I didn't like. I know, I know, there is no nylon in this yarn but I don't really like the feeling of it for a top. So far, I'm happy with it for socks. Which is good, since I have plenty. I'm working on the second one right now, and finding them rather compulsive!</span><br />

In fact, I think I'm rather terrible at sewing. And yet. And yet I just keep on doing it. In the last few weeks I've had two sewing projects, some pillow covers, and a basket liner.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimmXOZ_WTaz4h-KBFQ_azhf3cxruVB6lCIj2pIiS01D9sT850bfd_NfNX1pBgfLog36yBtWZxdNgW1fS4cGP3m5BhgLJ8K0zC3b4bk4GMBri71xzKAYHEriEDjg68VwM8veRPIK3ESqDQL/s1600/P1100853.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimmXOZ_WTaz4h-KBFQ_azhf3cxruVB6lCIj2pIiS01D9sT850bfd_NfNX1pBgfLog36yBtWZxdNgW1fS4cGP3m5BhgLJ8K0zC3b4bk4GMBri71xzKAYHEriEDjg68VwM8veRPIK3ESqDQL/s640/P1100853.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I bought those blue pillows in Australia......for very little money. They were great, until they were worn out. I used the previous covers as a guide, and I did put zippers in so they would look neater than an envelope pillow. They got better as I went along, so that by #3 I was rather pleased with how the pillow looked. I bought this fabric at JoAnn's on sale, and I really wish they had the exact same but with a different color flower pattern. I've got a few more pillows to recover (yes, we have a ridiculous amount of pillow on our huge couch). I'm also toying with the idea of knitting a few. Like I don't have enough to knit right now!</span><br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;">So this is my computer desk--covered in two different knitting patterns, a tape measure, and a knitting project on the left that is currently hibernating. I barely turn the computer on it seems.</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-size: large;">Speaking of knitting, the next project was a basket liner--specifically for knitting. I have quite a few baskets for my WIP's. I do love baskets. This one in particular isn't a very nice one, I bought it on clearance at Michael's for a Christmas present that didn't happen. It is sort of rough and I don't want it snagging any of my projects. I did an internet search for a pattern, and then sort of cobbled it together.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-size: large;">I couldn't be bothered sewing a tie, I just hate to turn them right-side out. So I used ribbon instead, and it works just fine. I used some stash fabric from when the girls were little. They haven't seen it yet, but I'm sure when they do they will try to steal this. I should have known better than to use pink........ </span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">And that's all for now. I've cast on yet another knitting project (socks!), which is ridiculous but such is life. One day, I'll finish one of the projects I'm working on. I'm still loving the Grandpa Cardigan (in the picture above), but I've got a while yet to get to 15" in length. Take care, happy crafting!</span><br />

What's up with this May Michigan weather? It is June 1st and I'm worried it might freeze tonight. Not cool Mother Nature, not cool. I got a little excited and planted a bit too early, and now I've got to be an eagle eye on the weather. I can't lose another tomatillo plant, I just can't.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I've got several WIP's right now, and I'm feeling pretty good about them all. First, I'm chugging along on my <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/grandpa-cardigan">Grandpa Cardigan</a>. It is my first pattern by Joji Locatelli, and I'm excited because I like so many of her patterns.</span><a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/joji-locatelli"></a><br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;">Yeah, it sort of matches the floor, sorry about that</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I hit a roadblock a while back and ripped the whole thing out and started over. I'm glad I did, since when I joined the back and sides I noticed they were on different rows. I fixed that the second time around and I'm MUCH happier.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcSKFXqg0wQDY0svwZ5rPH5xCUKSh1Ar1i-9sdEibz4NBZI7bMuZpFi9In9hW-EqPFEHo_7_Q1N94SHOhR9WjL4B9a0nK703m_93TvW1TM2hjW2I9z7-msSchDSgIgjf61IbGbjkynT86h/s1600/P1100861.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcSKFXqg0wQDY0svwZ5rPH5xCUKSh1Ar1i-9sdEibz4NBZI7bMuZpFi9In9hW-EqPFEHo_7_Q1N94SHOhR9WjL4B9a0nK703m_93TvW1TM2hjW2I9z7-msSchDSgIgjf61IbGbjkynT86h/s640/P1100861.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I started on Rori's <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/britannia-3">Britania</a>. I'm using Berroco Vintage DK. It is my TV knitting right now, though last night I was so tired I knit a round of the wrong row. Why is it you always figure that out at the END of the row? I'm knitting this the same as Isla's (sleeveless) but I've gone up a needle size because she is a squinch bigger than her sister. These girls are growing like weeds. </span><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">So are the feathered girls:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZIwMM7oVc0GVNdVIILMLxaK-5-XqqAxmOUT7M1CULDLXGoLeohJiE7rmM9o1T7I-XKaQ_oyRMcMyDFuIlhe8I2NIyfLYrX2IQch1qbI_dizx86CnjKICIokpKEw6NWOv1u-ggTiKMrvwB/s1600/IMG_20150527_183853216.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZIwMM7oVc0GVNdVIILMLxaK-5-XqqAxmOUT7M1CULDLXGoLeohJiE7rmM9o1T7I-XKaQ_oyRMcMyDFuIlhe8I2NIyfLYrX2IQch1qbI_dizx86CnjKICIokpKEw6NWOv1u-ggTiKMrvwB/s640/IMG_20150527_183853216.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Lastly, I'm working on a <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sweet-summer-shawl">Sweet Summer Shawl</a>. It was my original TV knitting until Rori asked me to get started on her Brittania. I'll admit, she had to nag me because I'm digging this shawl. It is pretty and blue and easy, I like it. I'm using Bendigo Woolen Mills 4 ply in the colorway lake.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHJc9y5pYRFuXs4JavLY6h8rR-g02QhEtaclq5hMpqrKWRUC8oFu8Hvw2RVMwEmVc-F7uHFSQ74lx53RQ8t3mK7u0dGM8ii8wAiVfZ_47N2cCnQ9P5UKYwzQ33rfgj9AnlWWEbtu67zVc9/s1600/P1100862.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHJc9y5pYRFuXs4JavLY6h8rR-g02QhEtaclq5hMpqrKWRUC8oFu8Hvw2RVMwEmVc-F7uHFSQ74lx53RQ8t3mK7u0dGM8ii8wAiVfZ_47N2cCnQ9P5UKYwzQ33rfgj9AnlWWEbtu67zVc9/s640/P1100862.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">So that's what I'm working on at the moment. I'm enjoying each of the projects. Thanks for stopping by! One last picture, taken a few days ago. </span><br />

My FO today is near and dear to my heart--my second ever Aran jumper! It took me about 5 months to knit (off and on) and I finished it way back in March and didn't get around to posting it (due to the move). So here she is, in all her cabled glory!</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCyc_szg9AshrKKdHNYUKTBXMamgRX5Ofz18HbD6nfGNSXF1RgEkUGuoYkcExzn_tOhrbTPZl9sZ3bhJ7QF647TfxPWGwIdZIJB_yTzCXb8Gt-c2kgCuUJKhqnbDcBKyzpa-m2QicgqXCq/s1600/P1100738.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCyc_szg9AshrKKdHNYUKTBXMamgRX5Ofz18HbD6nfGNSXF1RgEkUGuoYkcExzn_tOhrbTPZl9sZ3bhJ7QF647TfxPWGwIdZIJB_yTzCXb8Gt-c2kgCuUJKhqnbDcBKyzpa-m2QicgqXCq/s640/P1100738.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">My first Aran knit was a project I finished for my Mum-in-law for my Grandma, I posted about it <a href="http://mcgreenexperience.blogspot.com/2014/02/mum-greens-gift.html">here</a>. I had so much yarn left over, that I decided I'd make a sweater for myself. I call it my feed mill sweater, because I plan on it keeping me warm during work in the winter. One of the many layers I'll be wearing.</span><br />
<br />

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">It is a free pattern, <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/raglan-aran-pullover">raglan aran pullover, by Hayfield</a>. I loved knitting this, and I even liked that it was sewn. There is something so satisfying about finishing a section and starting the next. I wasn't too sure about the first at first, because it is shorter than a traditional Aran jumper, but I've grown to really like it. The yarn is Hayfield bonus tweed. I did have to buy a small amount to finish, but really, I needed less than 100g's to do so.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">If you haven't ever knit an Aran jumper, I do recommend it. It is so very addictive and fun!</span><br />

I have a couple of FO's to talk about, and I'm trying to get the posts written while it is raining and I can't (or won't) play in the garden.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I worked off and on for months on my <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/roxborough-dolman">Roxborough Dolman</a>, and I finished it about a month ago. It was touch and go if I'd have enough yarn to do the neck and sleeves, but I did. And I don't like it. It is supposed to be a slouchy shirt, and it is not. I think even if I washed & blocked it, it just wouldn't be roomy enough. I'm not sure what I did wrong, I thought I had gauge, but I guess not. And I'm not going to knit it all over again, because it was BORING. I thought the stripes might entice me, because I love stripes, but not even that will. I think I will frog it, and make some socks. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-aLVVihX1TIQQG9dN0fhohb5wN8JtqtfqFyaf-kS8IL_KCcaDtdXBMk1jnJin_DwOI_rs2GAcoMKANFsX8ZnzsNXZjVmRxdkB5WEiZoSdTnp5Dmnq2MucjWU2_QKMipdFI1e1uBIwpoYZ/s1600/IMG_20150510_122439023.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-aLVVihX1TIQQG9dN0fhohb5wN8JtqtfqFyaf-kS8IL_KCcaDtdXBMk1jnJin_DwOI_rs2GAcoMKANFsX8ZnzsNXZjVmRxdkB5WEiZoSdTnp5Dmnq2MucjWU2_QKMipdFI1e1uBIwpoYZ/s640/IMG_20150510_122439023.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">The yarn is Cascade 220 fingering in silver and green. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7i5Wq6XtNl8qe4ui7AGEYErctS0g_uDPfEvYiBq8fgSaOTAlBOOA-VS2k9dTB0EJSr-uaXEFiYGBbThn32ucxDRKZ-k5tcATbr_2gDC-NhfyDtOPjxyCgXkcf8r7yxImXDUze42gHPWLQ/s1600/IMG_20150510_122352891.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7i5Wq6XtNl8qe4ui7AGEYErctS0g_uDPfEvYiBq8fgSaOTAlBOOA-VS2k9dTB0EJSr-uaXEFiYGBbThn32ucxDRKZ-k5tcATbr_2gDC-NhfyDtOPjxyCgXkcf8r7yxImXDUze42gHPWLQ/s640/IMG_20150510_122352891.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I won't lie, I'm pretty happy not have to weave in all those ends. I tried to carry my yarn up the side, but it wasn't working, so I ended up just doing this. Probably a big mistake, but I'll learn from it, I swear. Until I muster the energy to frog it, I'll set it in the "disappointment pile."</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>

I seem to be getting my knitting groove back (the rainy weather probably helps), and even though I'm getting some stuff done, I am having trouble blogging about it. It has been super busy at work, and getting the garden ready for summer, and protected from the deer. In fact, nothing is protected yet, and we've just been lucky. The chicken coop is done however, so at least the girls can sleep out there instead of in the garage.</span></span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">She's just like me, and can't stand having anything tight on her neck. The first time I did the neck opening it was too tight, so I ripped it back and then went up several needle sizes. It looks a wee bit floppy in the pics, but I haven't washed it yet, as I can't get it off of her. The yarn is Berroco Vintage DK in ruby. I like the yarn (currently using it for a cardigan for myself). I like the pattern, and I like that I can make an adult size too. Bonus!</span><br />

I just don't know what to do with all the energy this sun instils in me. Tonight when I got home from work I took a bike ride before I made dinner. Then after dinner I took a walk in our woods. Yup, we have woods, and I love it.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNN1vwUk70aaTNAikXUnYVlpHr7PzDdIjXa8PwqA1fXopdtq2uk8gV_E88oOtk-K2HHbat08KhM-dC_nY1xid1a0xd8i28wG9acSMUYbkxHrp2rONrsQUc6AE9R6XkxlXIAqBecsrEyJO-/s1600/IMG_20150428_190824845.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNN1vwUk70aaTNAikXUnYVlpHr7PzDdIjXa8PwqA1fXopdtq2uk8gV_E88oOtk-K2HHbat08KhM-dC_nY1xid1a0xd8i28wG9acSMUYbkxHrp2rONrsQUc6AE9R6XkxlXIAqBecsrEyJO-/s1600/IMG_20150428_190824845.jpg" height="640" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I'm still trying to recover from this move, and I have the feeling my Dad is right and it might take 6 months for things to settle down. I still get friendly (and not so friendly) reminders to close out old accounts, change addresses, return internet equipment (OK Charter, so I forgot for a week, stop pestering me). I know I will get there though, so I'm trying not to get too stressed out. I lost my knitting mojo for a while there too, and it took all my concentration to finish something, but I did.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I finished Isla's Britannia, mostly because she loves it sleeveless and that saved a ton of time. I still have to weave in the ends, but it is 99% done! Maybe I can get it finished for a Friday post! And while I know I should start Rori's instead I started something for myself. In pumpkin. It is such beautiful yarn!</span><br />
<br />

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I know it is a bit hard to see against the wood floor, but I did my best late at night. It is called the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/grandpa-cardigan">Grandpa Cardigan</a>, and the yarn is Berroco Vintage DK.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">That's all I've got for now, I hope everyone with spring weather is enjoying it. Happy Crafting.</span><br />

I has been months and months since last I wrote on the blog. I'd like to feel bad about it, and maybe a small part of me does, but man oh man, we've been busy. </span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #351c75;"><span style="font-size: large;">We bought a house!!</span></span></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPoBQf5yh9u2LZlO4yK07097jHJKta31sVmhu_Ulq6aQHize89_n0ssZ6-uc46XqTa4imrvn6V-QDTtEprNy_PUhyfTDVyl2UgJVNCND6OtcsoQGsc0s4Kaype5viGoTja6RryCVWXHkJt/s1600/0408151750.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPoBQf5yh9u2LZlO4yK07097jHJKta31sVmhu_Ulq6aQHize89_n0ssZ6-uc46XqTa4imrvn6V-QDTtEprNy_PUhyfTDVyl2UgJVNCND6OtcsoQGsc0s4Kaype5viGoTja6RryCVWXHkJt/s1600/0408151750.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I guess because of my history with international moves, I should state that we are still in MI--for good. This will be the last move for a long time, if we have our way!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The first week of April we moved in to our new house on 11.6 acres. I am so very excited/tired that I almost stopped knitting for a few weeks. It felt so good to pick up my needles the other night! My parents have been here to help, and we still have a few boxes to unpack, and life swirls on as normal. I did finish a few things before we started packing (and bought a wee bit of yarn), like this Aran jumper:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHwOYMQOeMUgOtkzjpxeiiLbcWgK1derHygxXjJnkYncalBl-zkyyDswi0-BPVJq4-wGmdi3lwJX3boQetKHO1TNohIbFKJcFxkTJSt1gjxxi7HTu0nFXmRR-UdkxFfJpPHIp2v9dWIYtu/s1600/P1100745.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHwOYMQOeMUgOtkzjpxeiiLbcWgK1derHygxXjJnkYncalBl-zkyyDswi0-BPVJq4-wGmdi3lwJX3boQetKHO1TNohIbFKJcFxkTJSt1gjxxi7HTu0nFXmRR-UdkxFfJpPHIp2v9dWIYtu/s1600/P1100745.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">But more on that later.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">We have big plans for the new house and land of ours. We started on it yesterday, with the purchase of 15 chicks. They are darling, and I'm pleased the girls get to watch them grow (the last time we had chickens, in Scotland, we bought them almost full grown).</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilQLX2DrwEppdXOD00E6sK4ymw_PCqrN-t2yZohMJ11FpA-rD1zdWXVQdxlctn0bXmjoMTfwvkMIGmeoQf1Du0ONIQ7MFPdqrjWWmQo3UEDXS_ulzv1q4wGidM0nFPVz3kKCqt5KFFEHbo/s1600/P1100787.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilQLX2DrwEppdXOD00E6sK4ymw_PCqrN-t2yZohMJ11FpA-rD1zdWXVQdxlctn0bXmjoMTfwvkMIGmeoQf1Du0ONIQ7MFPdqrjWWmQo3UEDXS_ulzv1q4wGidM0nFPVz3kKCqt5KFFEHbo/s1600/P1100787.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">So while I get unpacked, and help Dave build/finish the chicken coop, keep on knitting. I may not be posting, but I most certainly am reading. I'll be back one of these days, unless the sun stays out and then I'll be playing in the garden. I've got this patch of ground to fill with veggies:</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

We are off down the road to try find a commuter car for Dave. We've been a one car family for as long as we can, and now we really need that second car. Dance class, soccer, you know how it goes.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I finished Rori's <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/alchemist-2">Alchemist</a>. She seems to like it, and both her and Isla have been taking turns wearing it. I should have knit the armholes one needle down, but I didn't, and that's ok. The yarn is Plymouth Encore.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoV85cYo2qYbR0iSCxZK0BQxUwDkHuNvbAXE7F5dsF9x-lNsYZjkQg4UruIkmDdIXZCP8A_qW3QuwJN5Vsi2V9GXksJEVp4FcO_k3bOJcgCL_cc2hTVME4Cb7ZonvBrNCgDXuMXSFSskUw/s1600/P1100686.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoV85cYo2qYbR0iSCxZK0BQxUwDkHuNvbAXE7F5dsF9x-lNsYZjkQg4UruIkmDdIXZCP8A_qW3QuwJN5Vsi2V9GXksJEVp4FcO_k3bOJcgCL_cc2hTVME4Cb7ZonvBrNCgDXuMXSFSskUw/s1600/P1100686.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Lastly, here is a long-overdue picture of Isla in her <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/tiny-tea-leaves-cardi">Tiny Tea Leaves</a>. We forgot for ages to take a picture, and then the day we chose was freezing cold. We ran onto the porch, grabbed a couple of pictures, and then ran inside again. Brrrrrr, winter is here.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIiZbySqF_SbyLTORH1MZ_ef_HTvGinGWWh1tiDfYeBXuAg2RbBieaBbGNxR50cbqATa0D9HrGY6rFpoZkBvV5ls1o3U5UVGqdnL7LnmxkiC67uPccVM7N4Ba86LknGkyZ_Jaag4KPksGB/s1600/P1100690.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIiZbySqF_SbyLTORH1MZ_ef_HTvGinGWWh1tiDfYeBXuAg2RbBieaBbGNxR50cbqATa0D9HrGY6rFpoZkBvV5ls1o3U5UVGqdnL7LnmxkiC67uPccVM7N4Ba86LknGkyZ_Jaag4KPksGB/s1600/P1100690.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">We definitely got the most from this pattern. Two pullover sweaters and two cardigan. Brilliant.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDvptfdA12Jxipmb7wgZnd5ifNyJSh14m2Ba419aQHljJ1bAahuKxk7_t6xv028m4wZbNXKQIkMlBPzFWlEz14qzoK37TZpERzQbjhTxOl83rh6CJ8pWl03kaaAkWJd5D9HY5e-TqqF6mu/s1600/P1100691.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDvptfdA12Jxipmb7wgZnd5ifNyJSh14m2Ba419aQHljJ1bAahuKxk7_t6xv028m4wZbNXKQIkMlBPzFWlEz14qzoK37TZpERzQbjhTxOl83rh6CJ8pWl03kaaAkWJd5D9HY5e-TqqF6mu/s1600/P1100691.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">That's all from me for now. Happy New Year everyone, I hope that 2015 treats you right!</span><br />

I have been a bit negligent in my blogging, that is true, but I have not slowed down in my knitting. In fact, I've been rather productive, and have a few FO's to share.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjW7_54B16b4mpSp7tylBlffWXgg0mFLt2MRXh72z63YdpNal_lzb4wTw0kEUqYS2iP6cNEjNC3d-T28KXZjKBM4HhKbqrSGUylO0fPjpU9amdlqlOiDsymHGWtoOgirS_c-KRZmmenYk3d/s1600/red.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjW7_54B16b4mpSp7tylBlffWXgg0mFLt2MRXh72z63YdpNal_lzb4wTw0kEUqYS2iP6cNEjNC3d-T28KXZjKBM4HhKbqrSGUylO0fPjpU9amdlqlOiDsymHGWtoOgirS_c-KRZmmenYk3d/s1600/red.jpg" height="640" width="184" /></a><span style="font-size: large;">First, just a wee bit of a back story. I work in Michigan, and my department divides the state up into three regions. My region (1) is comprised of 17 individuals that work out of their homes, and one supervisor that lives in Traverse City. Every three months we meet up in the north for a staff meeting. Every Christmas there is a themed contest, and this year it was red. The person with the most items of red worn, and the best dressed red. I decided I wanted to WIN. I threw myself into it wholeheartedly.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I did win, and would have taken both categories if that was allowed. This picture doesn't even show half of my other red.......including a few things I knit. </span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The hat (pardon the bad pictures, I blame the winter) is a free pattern, <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/flower-bud-beanie">flower bud beanie</a>. I cannot say enough good things about the pattern. Fast, pretty, fun. </span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">The fingerless gloves are also wonderful, and a free pattern, <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/75-yard-malabrigo-fingerless-mitts">75-yard-malabrigo-fingerless-mitts.</a></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The yarn I used for both is Lion Brand Heartland. I had a 50% off coupon at Joann's, and one skein was enough for both projects. Bargain!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I've got one project I'm almost done with (I hope), and three more on the go. Ok, maybe four. I can't wait for the extra time I'll have over the Christmas holiday. Take care, I'll see you in 2015! </span><br />

I love the weekend, even though I've had a pretty great week. I have two FO's to share today. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The first, a headband, I made over a month ago and forgot about. It was one of those, "I really need a quick project so I can feel like I'm accomplishing something" deals. Also excellent stash-busting. I ended up gifting it to my co-worker, because I'm just not a headband kind of girl. I guess. I keep trying.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf5T3Hu9gfQhslXlHFWB87zHdwMr-fGG-_gd0UYqrPlsTvSH2UWyXF6X2Lup1xeFWxY3je02ce9DZXtEI8kjpDnWNf6_faE_d_f4G6i1E12l0gAWgvhxE4bM02peI8pfflMnMZWvNLXBwK/s1600/P1100597.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf5T3Hu9gfQhslXlHFWB87zHdwMr-fGG-_gd0UYqrPlsTvSH2UWyXF6X2Lup1xeFWxY3je02ce9DZXtEI8kjpDnWNf6_faE_d_f4G6i1E12l0gAWgvhxE4bM02peI8pfflMnMZWvNLXBwK/s640/P1100597.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">The pattern is <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/winter-morning">Winter Morning</a>, and it is free. The yarn is from my stash, absolutely lovely soft stuff, Wendy Viva.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The latest project I've finished is a hat for fellow blogger Anke's friend. She had a shout out a few weeks ago asking for hats for her friend who is facing some health issues. The idea grabbed hold of me at once, and I cast on that day. I wobbled for a while, thinking the yarn didn't match the pattern. And maybe it doesn't, but let me tell you, I think it is lovely in person. The yarn is super soft and I think it will feel lovely against her skin. </span><br />

In a BIG way. First (weeks ago now), I cast on some fingerless gloves. Then I got to the finger portion and</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibXvhG32tYg8AduXnc6AizxNFVNjscFggOIo-pucubYyetQ-WTz7cE-mupcJQL2Yozcfzx1mjNwxIvNpP9OIzubskG6J7A8T57pl8HPL5pqL2054P7aR57rUZDkQPBzQ4-MVZKLL4G8bzq/s1600/P1100620.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibXvhG32tYg8AduXnc6AizxNFVNjscFggOIo-pucubYyetQ-WTz7cE-mupcJQL2Yozcfzx1mjNwxIvNpP9OIzubskG6J7A8T57pl8HPL5pqL2054P7aR57rUZDkQPBzQ4-MVZKLL4G8bzq/s640/P1100620.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">they were abandoned. I cast on a cabled sweater with the yarn I have left over from <a href="http://mcgreenexperience.blogspot.com/2014/02/mum-greens-gift.html">this</a></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: large;"></span>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><span style="font-size: large;">that was abandoned because I cast on a <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mielie-vest">vest</a> with this gorgeous yarn. It is Wool of the Andes Tweed. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">then that was abandoned and I cast on a <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/alchemist-2">vest</a> for my daughter</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Ok, that isn't all true, not everything has been abandoned. I am knitting the Mielie vest while the kids and I watch TV at night, since it is mainly stockinette. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhW0YOjUqUw-tso-tTqmQ5E8PvsFVeYAzqwyPoigydbfyzwU1frHcMD83FsCtxyfA9unKnRACqwtdNhUwPBDNuAULZ-fNKFt2dpn_1fQ61eZpONfRoNKHUToGkl_-b8fexwUhC8urW4_POY/s1600/P1100624.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhW0YOjUqUw-tso-tTqmQ5E8PvsFVeYAzqwyPoigydbfyzwU1frHcMD83FsCtxyfA9unKnRACqwtdNhUwPBDNuAULZ-fNKFt2dpn_1fQ61eZpONfRoNKHUToGkl_-b8fexwUhC8urW4_POY/s640/P1100624.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br />I </span>
<span style="font-size: large;">had to cast on the vest for Isla because all this beautiful yarn arrived in the mail. I also discovered something wonderful--yarn really does cheer me up! We've been having just a wee bit of family worry/drama, and the pumpkin yarn in particular make me feel ever so much better, just by looking at it. So I've left it and a red skein out on my desk, in case I need a quick pick me up. Another nice thing is that the kids saw all the pink (which they had picked) and decided in the future maybe they should pick some other colors. Wouldn't that be wonderful, if they threw in some greens and blues! Rori at least picked that lovely purple on the right, and Isla picked the red. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">So all that should keep me out of trouble for a little while. But I'm not going to lie, for some reason the cold weather is making me want to knit socks. We will see where the season takes me!</span>

Lately, my kids have been very crafty. First, they asked me to teach them how to knit. Oh, yes, with pleasure I will teach them to knit. They are (slowly) working on some garter stitch squares.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB0InQ9Ha8Q3A6t3aPAhTU5NffWt-WDmOG8wacidiFPKjV51gnE_DLXlPyaikaaajIdhg9D-Ro5Rk2KNBWni2EQeLCw7aZGii_IHLpwzE4DOHPegujffpNexGnYGEKZ6CmjMzhpqDO7LOV/s1600/P1100532.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB0InQ9Ha8Q3A6t3aPAhTU5NffWt-WDmOG8wacidiFPKjV51gnE_DLXlPyaikaaajIdhg9D-Ro5Rk2KNBWni2EQeLCw7aZGii_IHLpwzE4DOHPegujffpNexGnYGEKZ6CmjMzhpqDO7LOV/s1600/P1100532.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Then, somehow (none of us can remember how it came up) they decided they wanted to learn to sew. A pillow, to be precise. So I taught them, because sewing a square and stuffing it with fluff is just about the easiest thing to learn. They were super excited, because it was<i> fast.</i> And don't we all like instant gratification?</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKjpy_qat5x4EcNTkcEQwm4z1Fvi31HYMTVodYZqUlcxMlop6IyM_yhZio_ogcpXfZONJcPNJjhpEgDksEZHIEcUQiA7eypU5rreL-Zcm7P3qLP2Waf7x9IsM3Ifj8X4v3qTie-2zdNIqm/s1600/P1100595.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKjpy_qat5x4EcNTkcEQwm4z1Fvi31HYMTVodYZqUlcxMlop6IyM_yhZio_ogcpXfZONJcPNJjhpEgDksEZHIEcUQiA7eypU5rreL-Zcm7P3qLP2Waf7x9IsM3Ifj8X4v3qTie-2zdNIqm/s1600/P1100595.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdt3tj6wT_YGo85XG55-xQsJ-41kSORnrd8_H3ltISlAkXdc7N7WBpaOFXMqTG1GjUAOn-lRcB5OYBeh3dP-kA7ziulLQGfh4ttL-rW94ANJdkTn4mDVe50OrmA_61SXbORju82Ac8_UoM/s1600/P1100594.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdt3tj6wT_YGo85XG55-xQsJ-41kSORnrd8_H3ltISlAkXdc7N7WBpaOFXMqTG1GjUAOn-lRcB5OYBeh3dP-kA7ziulLQGfh4ttL-rW94ANJdkTn4mDVe50OrmA_61SXbORju82Ac8_UoM/s1600/P1100594.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">So they made themselves some pillows. And then, they each made me one.
And their Dad. And then they made their grandparents each one for
Christmas. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-size: large;">We used stash fabric, except for two pillows (the grandparents pillows), and we did buy fluff. But otherwise, quite an affordable and enjoyable project. Plus, now I have a perfect pillow to use when we are travelling in the car! Next up, they are making themselves fleece ponchos!</span><br />

I love the crisp, sunny days, and the cold nights. I do not love snow on Halloween and how cold and windy it was. But I guess you take the good with the bad, and it all evens out. </span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I'm knitting lots right now, and loving it. I've even placed a rather large yarn order, with enough to keep me busy right through the winter. I finished Isla's cardigan, but right now I'm going to talk about sewing. I'm not very good at it, but I do give it my best attempt. I've been teaching the girls, but more on that in another post.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">First, let me just say we all used to be young. And in my younger days, I was slimmer. The <i>before</i> days. Before kids, before marriage, before I was tired and didn't want to exercise. Just, <i>befor</i>e. I don't want to go back to those days, but I wouldn't mind going back to slimmer days. I have a Carhart jacket that I love, because it is warm and has lasted over 10 years. Partly because my hips got too full to wear it much. Until I decided to take the scissors to it. </span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I was scared to cut into this jacket, but if I couldn't wear it, what was the point in having it? So cut it I did. Then I ironed on a heavy duty patch to each cut side and sewed it on as well. </span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">It isn't pretty, but it does work, and that is what matters. This isn't a fashion coat, it is a work horse coat, and now, I can get even more wear out of it. I'm super pleased.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Next post, all the pillows my girls are making for Christmas! </span><br />
