On Monday night I finished a project that had been languishing for a bit too long. Hurray! However that meant that I only had one project on the go, the leaf panel cardigan I started last week.
I've made progress, namely about 4.5 inches, but it is oh so boring! The pattern has you start on the back which is plain stockinette stitch. You know what I'm talking about, B-O-R-I-N-G!
So I had to think up a few more projects that wouldn't be so mind numbing. I'll do the stockinette stitch while I watch tv. Sorted.
I have been wanting to knit a blanket for some time, and I have an amazing block book:
I seriously love this book. So I've picked my blocks and with some yarn I had leftover (where I ordered about double what my Mother-in-law needed to knit my Dad his Aran jumper). I've decided to do vertical rows of 5 blocks, and to knit them in a continuous strip. Then I can do vertical joins between the rows, instead of joining a ton of blocks. Will this work? I sure hope so. Here is 3/4 of a block I started yesterday. It is hard to see the pattern. It is called "hourglass."
The second project I started is a pair of socks for the girls. I have this beautiful yarn I ordered on accident (yes, I am that thick sometimes). I am using the most basic kids sock pattern. So far, just the cuff and a few rows of the leg. I'm hoping I don't take as long on these as I did on mine. I figure making small socks will help me improve. Plus, I really wanted to use that gorgeous yarn for something!
That's all for me this Wednesday, check out the creativity here:
I know what you mean about needing varied projects so the boring stockinette doesn't drive you mad! Love the yarn for the socks. I think your plan for the blocks makes perfect sense, much less joining to do!
ReplyDeleteNOT a fan of boring projects! Sometimes I don't even finish them. Love your knitting! It's inspiring me to some day try it.
ReplyDeleteThat book looks intriguing. The cover designs are fabulous.
ReplyDeleteSo recognizable: a project is boring and then you come up with all kinds of new projects:) It is a good way to keep your brains active in a creative way and you make beautiful things. Success!

Blocks are so fun for trying out new techniques! Looks like a great book. I'd be bored with that much stockinette as well, so adding another a wip is a good idea!
ReplyDeleteYou have so many great projects on the needles. I hope that the purling gets better and not so annoying. I know just what you mean, I'm getting ready to start a rather large colorwork project that is going to require purling on one side, save me now!
ReplyDeleteThat book looks lovely - must check it out! And I love the yarn bowl too :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Sarah. I made the yarn bowl in a pottery class last spring. I'm rather proud of it, the rest of my creations were not as nice or functional.
DeleteBeautiful yarn bowl :) I agree that mind numbing stockinette can be the death of me as well. I try to pair it with TV knitting or podcast listening to soften the effects.
ReplyDeleteOh I understand boring knitting - nothing worse, really! That new book looks interesting.
ReplyDeleteThat blanket will be gorgeous! Can't wait to see it progress.
ReplyDeleteYour sock wool is gorgeous, and I can't wait to see the blanket.

I like the idea you have for doing the blocks, I really hope it works for you! I like the colorway for your girls' socks, very pretty.
ReplyDeleteIts a good thing to have a few things going at once, means that something that bores you can get switched for something more interesting!
ReplyDeleteI like doing stripes made of blocks to reduce the number of blocks you have to join. I made one like that for a friend of my DD's wedding present and it worked out great. Keep us posted.
ReplyDeleteOh I know about boring stockinette projects! I usually save those for the daytime when I need to be able to set a project aside at a moment's notice, then I work on the more complicated stuff at night when the baby is sleeping.
