It's not you, it's me

Something a bit annoying happened to me this past week.  I was forced to break up with my beloved Shellseeker.  I finished the body, and I think the pattern is pretty great.  Loads of knitting in the round, and yet, not boring.  Fabulous.  I was getting ready to start on the sleeves and then I thought I should try it on, just to see how it fit.  Well.  It didn't.

I guess I should clarify.  It fit too well.  I'm making this to be a sweatshirt to wear over a shirt and it fits like a well-fitted top.  Perhaps ok, except that it is pure wool, and about 3 inches too short.  On the up side, I like it a lot without the sleeves.  So it is giving me ideas.  For now, we are on the outs, and it is going into the time out pile.  I'm going to have to frog it and start over to get what I want.

In other news, I'm happy to report that the voting last week picked the Lintilla scarf/shawlette, which really, really pleased me.  It was the one I wanted to knit, which I figured out pretty quickly once I took the power away from myself.  I think it looks lovely so far, and after my recent failure, I'm hoping we continue to get along.

That's it for me this week.
Happy Crafting!

  1. Your shawlette looks beautiful! Although your top looks quite good like that, but no good if you are wanting it over the top of something else. I hate it when a jumper or cardigan is too tight on the top I have underneath.

  2. The lintilla shawl is looking wonderful, shame about your shellseeker, may be a bit of time out will make it easier to make a decision about its future

  3. Love the look of your Shellseeker, but I can understand why it isn't right for what you want. Shame though, it looks gorgeous.

  4. I think the shellseeker looks great like it is, is keeping it that way an option at all?

  5. Lintilla is looking fab and to be honest, I think the Shellseeker looks great too - I'd keep it like that without the sleeves.

  6. I'm sorry your sweater isn't working out the way you planned. Ripping it out will be very difficult but when you end up with the sweater that you want it will have been totally worth it.

  7. I always like fitted knits better, probably because I frequently end up with projects that are much too large for me a lot. It is means anything, I think that it looks great on you. But if it isn't exactly what you want then you should definitely try again, maybe you have a different yarn you could try that might make it less boring to start over? At least you are happy with your pretty shawl!

  8. UGH... it's too bad you had to RIP your sweater back. It does suit you very nicely. Hopefully, the next time you work it up, it will turn our better for your purposes. I do like it without sleeves. I think it will look really cute over a long sleeved tee.

  9. Breaking up is hard to do. I have a kid's sweater which turned out too tight in the neck opening. IT has sat for over a year in the closet. I finally thought to rip back and redo the collar. Then couldn't find the book it came from, obviously gave away the bok in my disgust. So after undoing each front and back to redo the neck I am left with a mess I have no desire to figure out. So it's going to knitting today and will be given to anyone who wants some dishcloth yarn, 50 cotton/50 microfiber. Once I got past the disappointment I was free to forget the entire episode! Love the shawl!!

  11. Add me to the list of folks who thinks your Shellseeker looks pretty good as it is. I can see where it might not look like the picture in your head, and where that might be annoying, but it seems like it works over a thin long-sleeved top. And I agree that it looks pretty awesome without sleeves!

  12. I think that the Shellseeker looks awesome on you. Is there a chance that the sweater will block out bigger? Maybe knit a small gauge swatch, wash and block it. Then see if it grew a bit. Sometimes the wool will surprise you. Love the pretty colors of your Lintilla.

  13. Your top fits you beautifully, but in 100% wool, I can understand why you'd like it larger, as an overshirt.
Could you use this pattern with a more 'skin-friendly' yarn blend and just make it a bit longer? Good luck!!
