Fun With Capri Suns

I've been having fun crafting with Capri Sun's this week.  I recently saw the tote bag that Beth has posted on her website, and got rather excited about it.  I want to make one as soon as I have enough saved, and can locate a zipper the correct size.  However, for right now, in keeping with my "use what I have" motto this Christmas, I made a smaller one.  I found the directions here.

Now, some people (ehum, who shall remain nameless) think my obsessive compulsive crafting nature is a bit odd, and that so are some of my creations.  I get it, not everyone wants a gift made out of used drink containers.  Environment haters.  But I digress.  I turn to you, my fellow crafters to ask your advise.  I made this with the thought of giving it to my daughters teacher for a Christmas present.  Perhaps putting in a few little items to fill it full of Christmas cheer.  What do you think?  Would you take a moment to answer my little poll and help me out?  You can answer honestly, I promise my feelings won't be hurt.  The upside is if you say I shouldn't give it as a present, I get to keep it for myself.  As it is now the girls are fighting over who gets the next one!

Should I gift the bag to my daughters' teacher?
Yes
No

Now just so you don't think I didn't get any knitting done, here's a quick one.  It is a 2x2 rib hat I whipped up for my uncle.  It was sort of an after-thought present, and I felt ho-hum about it.  Then I put it on.  So warm.  So soft.  Oh so happy.

Check out these blog hops, and have a great day!

  1. your hat looks store bought :O

i would only give the bag to the teacher if you knew that they would appreciate the hand madey goodness, and are sure they are not someone who would think 'why are you giving me something made with rubbish'?

Not that i think its rubbish :D very clever! We dont get those drinks here, so i dont know what the packets are like

  2. The hat looks very warm and cosy - which I think is fairly crucial for a hat!

I love the bag, there's a store near me that sells them, as well as ones made from old rice sacks, and they aren't cheap!

  3. If the teacher is a science teacher or an environmental lover, he/she will be sure to appreciate it.

  4. I think the bag is great and the teacher will too especially if you add some pencils and gadgets that she is in need of this year.

  5. I really LOVE the tote!! I think that it makes a wonderful gift...and all the more special because of the time (and earth-loving-thought) that you put into it!!

  6. I've seen them made before and they are really cute. I think it would be a great gift for a teacher!

  7. Awesome!! I would LOVE to receive a gift like that! I think they're just super cool. And keep in mind, old sweatshirts or jackets that can't be passed down or thrifted, can be torn apart for those really nice long zippers!

  8. They both look fantastic! I would love to receive a handmade item for christmas. Just going into a store and buying something or clicking online is a lot easier than making something. Making something is filled with love and effort!

  9. I like the bag too. It seems like the right sort of bag to take to a beach or on a picnic... or to knit night. :-)

I have a purse made from gum wrappers that I completely love. It was pricy and is fragile. So I only use it for special occasions.

  11. The bag is darling and teachers are almost always creative (and thrifty) people, I'm sure she will love it!!!

  12. I think the tote is awesome! People pay money for those things, so why shouldn't you make one yourself and save the money (while also helping the environment)? It makes sense to me! I love your creativity!

  15. Wow. That is amazing. I bet if you made it double-thick (the bag) or put a zip at the top, it would be as good as one of those cold-carry-type grocery bags, that keeps frozen food cold on the way home!

  16. I love your Capri Sun bag! I've been saving my dog's food bags for several months, they're made of something you cannot tear so I figured I could make bags and things out of them or perhaps wallets...thanks for the inspiration. Happy Fiber Arts Friday!

  21. You did a great job! My daughter's brownie troop saves capri suns and sends them somewhere where they pay you for them. I'm guessing they use them to make bags, totes, zipper pouches, etc. I'd totally give it as a gift, you should be proud of it!

  22. I love the bag and it seems great for a teacher! It's really cute and it seems like extra totes would always come in handy for teachers.

  23. As a crafter and a teacher AND an environmentalist, I would LOVE IT if a student gave this bag to me. LOVE.IT. They are too busy scratching their butts and making me cookies that I won't eat. I've been seeing these Capri Sun bags forever and never really thought they were actual Capri Sun pouches! I figured some Chinese company was making bolts of Capri Sun looking "fabric" that everyone was making bags out of!
